Spend The Night

Inheritors of a proud lineage of girl groups stretching back to the Shangri-Las and making its way up through the Runaways, Girlschool, L7, etc., The Donnas and their libidinous bubblepunk may not have been as shocking in 2002 as in previous decades but they still dropped a cherry bomb into the pants of puritanism. Their fifth record (and major label debut) straddles the line between punk and metal, losing some of their earlier raw charm but making up for it in polished songcraft. “Take It Off” is the obvious sheet-shaking highlight but “Who Invited You?” brings some of the powerpoppiest pleasure and “Not the One” stitches the Judas Priest backpatch onto their leather jackets.
