Spike Field

Released

On their second full length album, 2023’s Spike Field, Maria BC continues and expands on the blend of quietly intense folk-derived approaches and subtle treatments and experimentation that showcased the earlier Hyaline. Their singing voice remains coolly sweet and gently mysterious, reminiscent of figures like Linda Perhacs. The hints of dark feedback on the opening “Amber,” woven into the mix rather than crushing the acoustic guitar, indicates the overall range, with intriguing piano parts on songs like the title track, “Tire Iron,” and “Still” adding to the sonic flow.
