Starve For The Devil

Tech death act Arsis’s fourth album hit longtime fans outta nowhere. Tired of cramming as many notes as possible into each measure and reeling from an eating disorder, founding member James Malone decided to — shock — actually have fun. Opening with a tongue-in-cheek melodeath rager called “Forced to Rock,” Starve for the Devil certainly has its share of arpeggios and shredding. It also has the band’s best hooks and funniest titles. “Half Past Corpse O’Clock,” anyone? Maybe not as impressive on a technical level as previous releases, it makes up for it with an infectious sense of enjoyment.
