Station ‘70: Call in Question / Live Independence

Released

Holy crap—this is scorching in a world of records where everything is allegedly scorching. Takayanagi’s free improv quartet, led by his electric guitar, were freaky by any standards but these two live albums are just unhinged, especially the work of drummer Sabu Toyozumi. They don’t just blow and holler and freak—it’s their way of making everything sound like the heaving cries of machines and sad, truly pained noises from within. It just kind of scares you, honestly.
