This is one of those lovely, small, gentle records that you don’t need to know anything about. Not that its genesis isn’t interesting: it is! Danish musician Jason Dungan played a giant 48-string home made zither along with piano, clarinet, bamboo sax, acoustic guitar, percussion and the organ of a small Swedish church in a village where was doing an artistic residency, inspired by breath, gardening and sustenance. And you can feel sustenance in it. But the music completely bypasses analysis or context when you play it. Its endlessly circling patterns and gentle tones reach you directly in your heart and soul. It’s tender magic.
