Hard to believe that Stoner Witch is one of the more straightforward entries in Pacific Northwestern iconoclasts Melvins’ extensive discography. Songs like “Revolve” and “Queen” even have somewhat traditional structures! This sludgy, doomy take on grunge (if grunge were as filthy as its name implied) hits slightly higher velocities than their other work, making the middle entry in their abortive major label tenure the closest to a good entry point for normies. Buzz Osbourne’s lyrics make about as much sense as his hair and it ends with nine minutes of noise, so mileages will still vary.
