Street of Dreams

Guitarist Grant Green can lay claim to helming no fewer than three all-time organ trios, but the flexibility of his trio featuring Hammond fireballer Larry Young and drummer Elvin Jones was something special, expanding to include vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson for the eloquent drift of Street of Dreams. The four standards here are taken at a leisurely stroll, each topping 8 minutes, allowing for many blooms and flourishes along the way, such as when Green and Hutcherson burst into “I Wish You Love.” Throughout, the vibes and guitar pairing feels weightless and effortless, especially on the lyrical “Somewhere in the Night,” while the drowsy feel and languid single lines of Green on “Lazy Afternoon” encapsulate the feel of the full session.
