Sunset 102 FM Radio Mix

From the beginning, Liam Howlett saw DJing as the means to an end—“I was more interested in being in a band, like the Beastie Boys,” he said in 2015—and made sets entirely in-studio. That was the case even before The Prodigy had released its first album; this studio set for Manchester’s Sunset is festooned with voiceovers telling us exactly what it is. But perfectionism has its advantages; the set is euphoric as it comes, a perfect moment-capture, nearly on the verge of collapse. His cut-in of “Charly” (pitched dramatically down) over The House Crew’s “Keep the Fire Burning” (UK this time) is charged with drama; “Charly” comes back at the end for an encore, too. So much voib.
