Take a Picture
Released
The sole album from jazz/pop songwriter Margo Guryan is a light, frothy delight. Never comfortable as a performer — although here her effervescent vocals work nicely for the low-key material — and unwilling to tour to promote the record, Take a Picture initially faded like an old Polaroid. Thankfully, later generations gave it more exposure. And it’s worthy of it — “Sun,” “Sunday Morning,” “Don’t Go Away,” “Think of Rain” are all lovely psychedelic-tinged slices of singer/songwriter goodness. “Love” especially leans into the time, with its opening three-minute freakout jam. The perfect music for a rainy spring day.
