Take Me With You

Released

The first signing and release for Holland, Dozier and Holland’s post-Motown Hot Wax/Invictus labels was ‘While You’re Out Looking For Sugar’ from vocal trio Honey Cone (Edna Wright, Carolyn Willis, and Shellie Clark) in 1970. It’s included on this, their debut album which showcases HDH’s signature melodic soul style, slightly updated for the 70s with its themes of sisterhood and added congas and wah wah guitar. HDH took care of most of the songwriting here and it’s a jubilant, buoyant ride that also includes Honey Cone’s big hit ‘Girls It Aint Easy’.
