Tekchbila ⵜⵉⴽⵛⴱⵉⵍⴰ Vol. 1
An incredible first release by L’AMME, an association that promotes and develops electronic music in Morocco, as well as preserving different currents of Amazigh (also known as Berber) music. In 2021 AMME organized a residency to bring together Amazigh musicians and Moroccan electronic music producers, and the results are astounding: traditional flutes and percussions become one with the footwork rhythms of GJ Leith’s “Who dis,” while chants, guembri, and percussion are chopped and immersed into a well of noise on tracks like “KR4D GN1N0MMU5 ⴽⵕⴰⴹ” and “QAT.” Throughout the record there is a beautiful balance between folklore and electronics, so that they no longer feel like separate elements: this is the future traditional music of Morocco.
