Justin Timberlake

2013
RCA

Justin Timberlake recording a better album than this double-opus is rather impossible to imagine. He and producer Timbaland reached deep into the creative bag of their previous collaboration, FutureSex/LoveSounds, going wild with futuristic funk songs that often easily topped seven minutes long, shades of 1999. (“Pusher Love Girl” and “Mirrors” exceed eight minutes; “True Blood” clocks in at 9:31.) Grammys hardly rained down like Thriller, but the high quality and thematic, sonic breadth that Timberlake spread over two hours of music shan’t be repeated again. (See Man of the Woods.)
