Back when he was playing bass in indie folk outfit Woods in the early 2000s, Kevin Morby shared an apartment with Cassie Ramone from uber-hip Brooklyn trio Vivian Girls. The Babies found the pair making a racket that fell nicely between the two. Morby’s shaggier, stoned country rockers crashing into a lo-fi Shangri-Las/Velvets rattle and reverb boom. Morby would soon evolve fast as a songwriter, but both debut album The Babies and 2012’s Our House On The Hill deliver a carefree blast of joyous rock and roll abandon that needs little improvement.
