The Colours of Chloë

Released

The Colours of Chloë is a landmark for being the leader debut of German bassist Eberhard Weber, inaugurating his longstanding relationship with the ECM label. Although it contains only four pieces in a compact 40 minutes, it spares no sense of time and place. Keyboardist Rainer Brüninghaus is the brightest star in a constellation including two drummers, a flugelhornist, and an ensemble of cellos. Weber takes opportunities to add nuance wherever possible, such as his ocarina in the title track, while the closing “No Motion Picture” exemplifies his distinctively visual approach to sound. The very definition of a classic.
