Scott Walker broke a seven year silence after his contributions to the Pola X soundtrack with The Drift, his debut effort for the famed 4AD label and easily one of the most unsettled, almost terrifying releases both he and said label ever put out. Walker’s inimitable voice explores wide ranges, sometimes carried by dramatic arrangements – even a braying donkey at one point – sometimes isolated aside from dark ambient float, while lyrically he pitilessly considers some of humanity and nature’s worst sides, furthering the cryptic, fragmented narrative style from Tilt.
