Stereolab were working at such a furious clip in the early 1990s that Space Age Batchelor Pad Music flick-books through ideas that other bands would get stuck on for years. It also belies the received wisdom that Stereolab’s material from this period of time all sounded the same, as Space Age Batchelor Pad Music glimmers with a strange, iridescent sound the group never quite achieved again. “We’re Not Adult Oriented” is the Roadrunner rock mantra, but it’s the quieter, lusher songs that are most moving here.
