The Jones Girls

Released

Philadelphia International Records released some of the finest and most influential soul records of the seventies and the 1979 debut from The Jones Girls was one of the last, great Philly albums. Musically, it’s heavily orchestrated soul and R’n’B, with some outstanding and extravagant string arrangements and the welcome addition of some occasional synth bass to the Philly soul sound too. Brenda, Shirley, and Valorie Jones were gifted with fine and distinctive voices and the backing vocals here are every bit as important as the lead. A rich, sophisticated production, this was a brilliant debut from a talented trio.
