The Long Count

Released

After dedicating herself to avant-club sounds, New York-via-Monterrey sound artist Debit takes a side step to explore ancient music from Mexico and delve deeper into experimentation. The Long Count is built from Mayan wind instruments which she used to model digital instruments through machine learning to make a highly evocative and ambitious album that can soothe, excite, and frighten the listener in equal measure.

Delia Beatriz used a collection of ancient Mayan wind instruments to generate this album, a blend of live and manipulated sound. It’s music built from breath and wind, and the tones and pitches here feel subordinate to the rush. A bit like a lost city singing to itself, free of human interference.
