The Stone Roses

1989
Silvertone Records

The Stone Roses’s debut album is one of those examples where the band itself wasn’t too fond of the result, but ever growing amounts of listeners over time felt rather differently. Following years of one-off singles, false starts and a circuitous path towards working with John Leckie, who shaped their charging psych rush into a flowing cascade of sound, it ended up becoming totemic for any number of acts to follow, from the moody opening anthem “I Wanna Be Adored” to the sighing “Made of Stone” through to the concluding funk stomp “I Am The Resurrection.”
