There Is Love in You

Released

There Is Love In You continued Four Tet’s move towards more dance floor-focused material with several tracks underpinned by 4/4 kick drums and running at standard deep house tempo. As ever with his productions, part of the charm lies in the juxtaposition of the sounds themselves — there’s still a pleasing cultural dissonance in the sound of a sampled folk-ish acoustic guitar arpeggio stapled to a beat-science drum beat — but also in the fact that he seems to find as much of interest in the frayed edges of an ill-fitting sample or the extraneous surface noise in a field recording as he does in his highly edited drum loops or lullaby melodies. Less hip hop beats, more synths and a more techno/IDM bent than many previous Four Tet albums, but still with that whimsical musical dreaminess that pervades all his work.
