Time Out of Mind
Absolutely no relation to Bob Dylan’s album of the same title, this is the sole album proper by Mark Pritchard’s Troubleman guise (though he did also compile single tracks on The First Phase the following year). It’s a perfect document of UK breakbeat at its most refined, packed with vibraphones, jazz fusion chords, dubwise space and proper song structures. The latter are vital — this is music from club culture, and functions incredibly on big sound systems for dancers, but the incorporation of vocals from Brazilian singer-songwriter Nina Miranda, the mighty ESKA and Steve Spacek (who Pritchard would work with regularly, most notably on the Africa Hitech project) really bring home the compositional sophistication of these pieces. A blissfully brilliant listen.
