Together Again
Released
Someone once described Together Again, a reunion between Dion DiMucci and his former vocal group, as sounding like a “doo-wop Velvet Underground.” It’s actually a fair call, particularly if you’re thinking the hushed intimacy of their third album, or the Motown-influenced pop of songs like “There She Goes Again.” Together Again has a similar curious warmth to it; there are some lovely Dion originals, like “My Girl The Month Of May,” a bossa-jazz inspired “Berimbau,” a gorgeous Dylan cover, and the whole thing is marinated in the hazy sensuality of DiMucci’s voice. Rough and joyous – surprisingly, perhaps, given the complexities of DiMucci’s life at the time.
