Swedish sleaze at its finest, Backyard Babies exemplify the kind of garage rock you get when your garage has three feet of snow on top of it. Cranking their amps to the max, tearing out ruthlessly efficient rock ‘n’ roll solos like it’s 1958 or ’78 (not ’98), sneering words about sex and drugs and rock and roll — not exactly deep stuff, but oh-so-satisfying. While this unlucky baker’s dozen of songs has highlights all over, the opening triptych of poppy “Make Me Madman,” frenetic “UFO Romeo,” and the sinister “Highlights” shows their different sides in the most booty-shaking way possible.
