Pailhead — basically The Land Of Rape And Honey-era Ministry, with ex-Minor Threat frontman Ian MacKaye on vocals — was a surprisingly potent if short-lived project. They only recorded six songs, but one of them, “I Will Refuse,” is a rip-roaring anthem the equal of anything in Ministry mainman Al Jourgensen’s catalog, and “Man Should Surrender” and “Don’t Stand In Line” almost prefigures a noisier, more raging Fugazi. The music is more postpunk rumble-and-clang than industrial barrage, and MacKaye’s vocals are laced with hardcore punk passion.
