Trans Day of Revenge

Released

The total amount of released music by trans feminist hardcore group G.L.O.S.S. (Girls Living Outside of Society’s Shit) adds up to about 15 minutes, but the final 7 of those minutes were the brightest and most radical earth-salting of their brief existence. The five songs that make up Trans Day of Revenge eschew respectability politics and call for direct and often violent action to take the right to live in this world by force. It is furiously beautiful and sadly timeless punk with incredible barbs from singer Sadie Switchblade such as “fuck the peace keepers/fuck their calm/the investigation is a fucking con” in “Give Violence a Chance,” and the rallying cries in “We Live” exist as a balm of perseverance for trans people and a threat to their enemies that they will never disappear. It took me longer to write about this than to listen to it, so I’m going to listen to it five times more.
