A feeling of claustrophobia and anxiety runs through Tuqoos, reflecting the harsh conditions of growing up in the midst of an occupation. Producer Julmud is one a of a host of Palestinian artists forstering the vibrant scene that is flourishing in spite of violence and repression, and his debut album Tuqoos captures those feeling with its dark, distorted sounds, while also breaking down boundaries and offering a sense of freedom and resistance. The musical references are global, from classic instrumental hip-hop to drum & bass and vaporwave, but they are interwoven with lush soundscapes and snippets of traditional music, vindicating a love for Palestine and its culture.
