Buffalo didn’t leave much ambiguity as to exactly what kind of eruptions they were interested in — it’s an understatement to call the multiple rock formations on the cover “suggestive.” These Aussie stoner rock precursors specialized in fuzzed-out heavy blues, falling between Blue Cheer’s summertime blues and UFO’s natural thing. “Sunrise (Come My Way)” contains their catchiest chorus, but “Freedom” finds them riding the Zeppelin to the titular state and “Shylock” sets a Shakespearean villain to a Sabbathian riff. Ugly, sure. They still deliver on what the album title promises.
