.Vril & Rødhåd Present Out of Place Artefacts - II

Released

I don’t know much about .VRIL and Rødhåd, the two German producers who have now done two full albums as Out of Place Artefacts. They remind me of Driftmachine, another German electronic duo who are extremely good at setting a mood and keeping the heat and the details coming. This is like a hot water bottle or a rice cooker: not flashy, but immensely comforting. I guess it bears mentioning that it’s sort of related to the softer variants of thump that Basic Channel brought to the table, but it barely feels like dance music or techno, even in its even-tempered drum patterns behaviors. This is a series of plugged-in, organic machine forms you can hang with. Sort of like one of those Netflix movies you expect to be serviceable but then is much better than you expect.
