Wasalala

Yosefe Kalekeni and Yobu Maligwa spent the majority of their lives busking on the streets of Lilongwe, Malawi, no doubt uplifting the city with their vibrant and irresistibly cheerful music. The same spirit permeates Wasalala, Madalitso’s first international release. The music is built around the rhythmic kick of Yosefe’s guitar and the deep bounce of Yobu’s babatone, a Malawian one-string slide bass, and is accompanied by the beat of a  cow-skin foot drum, lush guitar riffs,  and the duo’s unique vocal harmonies. Whether celebrating their country on the joyous “Vina Vina Malawi,” or singing the virtues of a lovely woman on “Nambewe,” Madalitso Band’s music is bound to make you smile.
