The remix version of Toddla T’s 2011 release Watch Me Dance features sometimes-radical recreations and manipulations of all eleven of that album’s tracks, courtesy of drummer/producer Ross Orton — and if anything it’s even better than the original. The slow and heavyweight skank of “Fly” (featuring Ms. Dynamite and Silvertone) is given a sparer and dubbier setting here, while the jungle-inflected “Cruise Control” is folded, spindled, and twisted into a sort of dancehall dubstep vibe that fairly defies you not to dance. Orton and Toddla make a brilliant pairing, and here’s hoping for more such collaborations.
