Resistant Culture is a West Coast-based grindcore/D-beat punk-metal band formed by vocalist Anthony Rezhawk in the late ’80s, but they didn’t start recording until the early 2000s. This, their second album, was their breakthrough; the songs have a militant aggression clearly descended from Discharge and Napalm Death (Napalm’s late guitarist, Jesse Pintado, was also a member of RC, teaming up with lead guitarist Katina Culture to create a blazing firestorm of riffage), but the lyrical message is all their own. Every member of RC is Native American or Latin, and their songs are about indigenous pride, militant ecology, and general resistance to rapacious capitalism. Amid the thrashing riffs, the songs also include Native chants, traditional instruments, and samples of speeches by Native resistance leaders.
