Mostly written and produced by Rick James who also appeared on the opening track, floor filler I’m A Sucker For Your Love, Teena Marie’s debut album for Motown is a lush soul, disco and boogie outing which introduced an extremely talented singer to the world. Marie’s voice is a wondrous thing, a distinctive, powerful and lavish soprano with a wide range which James framed in several different song styles, from quiet-storm soul ballads to jazzy boogie jams and serious dance floor disco. It’s clean, tight, pristinely arranged and remains an extremely strong, optimistic debut, overflowing with potential and full of light.
