Woman Call

Angel-Ho

2020

Angel-Ho’s second full album, in a word, serves. That’s not meant to be flippant at all; right from the pulsing, your-attention-is-now-here start with “Fame,” on Woman Call she is all charisma and power in her delivery, her overlapping call-and-response with herself throughout the album an instant party (and on the title track, it’s almost apocalyptic). Whether hip-hop, retro r’n’b or house and techno beats, it’s all bangers, from the tight grooves of “Spell On You” to the bubbling passion of “Kisses Taste Like Honey,” the latter with a brilliant sax and vocal duet bridge.
