The catalogue of Luke Vibert (aka Plug, Kerrier District, Wagon Christ etc etc etc) is one of the more bamboozling in electronic music as he has released often multiple albums per year over decades. But this from 2003 is perhaps the very best starting point. It’s known best for the vocoder funk of “I Love Acid” but every single track lives up to that anthem, and all the elements that Vibert excels at — gurgling 303 acid, electro, rave riffs, masterful breakbeat editing, disco warmth — are all present and correct throughout. Played quietly it’s like a relaxing bubblebath, pushed up loud it will sent you party crazy. And once you’ve got into it there’s untold joy to discover in the rest of Vibert’s work.
