Zamaan Ya Sukkar
The 1960s and ‘70s were marked by unprecedented musical crosspollination thanks to the popularity of vinyl, evolutions in radio technology, and the growing ease with which people could move from one part of the globe to the other. Sounds from all over the world converged in cosmopolitan Middle Eastern metropolises like Beirut and Cairo, where music from France, Italy, Greece, and the USA merged with local sounds to give life to the vibrant music scene. With its nine tracks, compiled by digging into the archives of legendary Egyptian labels like Sono Cairo, Disques Sharara, and Misrophon, Zamaan Ya Sukkar offers a little snapshot of these crossover years, when Cairo’s nightlife moved to the sound of jazz, cha cha cha, mambo, twist, and foxtrot.
