Astonishingly subtle and responsive work from Shiroishi, who visited the cemetery where many of his family are buried. Field recordings from a morning and an evening formed the bedrock for four long pieces fleshed out with saxophone and synthesizer and processing. It’s central that this album doesn’t feel like it was particularly made, or, rather, made with specific instruments. It feels very much like something that simply comes into view, especially in the way it’s mixed, none of it in close auditory focus till it’s necessary. A moving and disorienting beauty.
