With roots in Malta by way of Brighton in the UK, ĠENN built on a series of singles and EPs in the early 2020s with a strong debut album in unum, an at once atmospherically moody and energetic blend of a number of styles, from smoky surf and psychedelia to post-punk edge and murky funk, that finds its own modern balance. Leona Farrugia’s singing holds a commanding tone through the echo, making for an excellent complement on the stirring music of songs like “A Muse (In Limbo)” and “The Merchant Of” as well as the sax-touched vibes of “Calypso.”
