More tropical dub, Latin reggae and Cumbia bass from Quantic and his Flowering Inferno project, his third full-length project exploring the shared rhythmic foundations of Caribbean and South American music. This time round he added a handful of vocalists to complement his crack team of international musicians and appearances from West London Lovers Rock queen Hollie Cook, UK soulster Alice Russell, toasting legend U-Roy, and Jamaican vocalist Christopher Ellis provide a counterbalance to the heavier rocksteady and dub vibes. It’s a superbly realised musical merger, where rocksteady drum, bass and skanking guitar mingle effortlessly with Latin instrumentation, and of all Quantic’s reggae / Latin projects, 1000 Watts feels the most fully realised and cohesive. The whole album has an ease to it, an air of effortlessness that transfers to the listening experience; it’s easy listening in the true, and complimentary, sense of the phrase.
