Ages
Tangerine Dream leader Edgar Froese made so many albums with his primary group that it’s hard to imagine him needing a secondary creative outlet, but as early as 1974 he was already putting out music under his own name. This 1978 release is his fourth solo disc, a double LP of anthemic themes that feature Froese on guitar and synths, and Klaus Krüger (also a member of TD at the time) on percussion. They’re not that different, honestly, from things you might hear on a contemporaneous TD album; indeed, “Nights Of Automatic Women” is like an abridged remix of “Madrigal Meridian” from the main group’s Cyclone, released the same year, and “Ode To Granny A” was retitled “Hobo March” and released as the B-side to a TD single. So if you’re a fan of Tangerine Dream’s punchy, rhythmically driving late ’70s work, Ages belongs in your collection.
