All You Can Tweak

Released

An archival dig of sorts for these two German producers, both core to the Source Records story, All You Can Tweak collects material that spans three decades, from 1991 to 202. It’s weighted towards the former – much of the material was recorded by the duo in the Blaues Zimmer studio that D-Man owned during the blossoming of their collective ‘scene’. It feels that way, to some degree, too, as many of the productions here are given to the gentle simplicity of the music released by Source in the nineties; dusty, rusting tones from organs, murky acid squelches, rhythms that emerge from a disorienting fug of tone and reverb – submerged deep house cuts. There are some lovely moments of glinting splendour, though – see the sensual tickle of the slo-mo chimes that slur into view two minutes through “Colon.ize”. A lovely historical document.
