Auchtermatic
2005
One Little Indian
Another of the 2000s archival releases that Billy Mackenzie’s estate released to give a fuller musical portrait of his final years, Auchtermatic generally if not entirely acts as the counterbalance to Transmission Impossible, favoring instead more electronic explorations that especially caught his ear then. Three notable vocal collaborations get their due: Barry Adamson’s elegant “Achieved in the Valley of Dolls,” the flowing ambient techno of Loom’s “At the Edge Of the World” and the bereft beauty of Apollo 440’s “Pain In Any Language.”
