Líneas, the ongoing collaboration between singer and songwriter Zackey Force Funk and producer Eddy Funkster, works in abstract vignettes more than traditional fully formed songs. They make use of the shivery whisper falsetto of Zackey, modern funk’s most distinctive instrument. Bad Times perhaps highlights a recent turning point for this scene in Los Angeles, adding samples and influence from classic soul to the brief, syncopated electronic tracks it’s based around. This dichotomy of organic and artificial works in tandem with Zackey’s haunting voice for a disorienting high point of both artists’ work so far.
