Black Sands Remixed
This 2012 Bonobo project contains remixes of most, but not all, of the tracks from his Black Sands album, and some additional Bonobo material too. So it’s not strictly a Bonobo album but there’s enough of the source material in each of the reworks for it to have the feel of a Bonobo album, while also travelling to some very different musical places. The frantic-paced percussion, syncopated vocal snippets and gauzy patches of original audio of the Machinedrum version of Eyesdown take Bonobo’s sleepy sound to the heart of the rave, Floating Points version with vocals from Andreya Triana weaves a weightless emo-garage anthem from the woody two-step beats and low-end growl of the original, and her vocals lift Alex Banks’ sweeping, baroque take on The Keeper to near-epic status. An excellent non-Bonobo Bonobo album.
