Cartooom!
Compared to other forms of moving pictures, cartoons have fascinating sonics. Untethered from the relative realism of live action television and film, foley artists get creative when attempting to match the exaggerated movements and expressions of cartoon characters. A sound designer might use a frenetic xylophone to represent someone walking on their tiptoes rather than a pair of shoes, or a slide whistle to communicate something zipping through the air at high speed. Plus-Tech Squeeze Box put their appreciation for the craft on display with their sophomore album cartooom!, drawing on a language familiar to the average Nickelodeon watcher and refitting it into a musical context. What you get is the audible equivalent to Saturday morning sugar rush, courtesy of sickeningly sweet exploding capsules of shapes and colors.
