A clear high point in Womack’s long career, Communication is a great Muscle Shoals album, featuring some of the finest southern soul players of the time, exercising their serious musical chops. It’s an audio treat from start to finish with guitar work from Womack himself, as well some gorgeous lead work from guitarist Tippy Armstrong and uber-funky keys from Barry Beckett. It’s a strong, confident Bobby Womack who flies effortlessly through all the material here, from deep ballads to soul-funk stompers, that familiar smokey voice perfectly framed by the rock-solid country-soul backing.
