If ever there was an album to play in the dark it’s this one. Kevin Martin’s The Bug project and Dylan Carlson’s Earth had both been masters of low-and-slow — industrial dub in the former case, grinding blues metal riffs in the latter — for many years before they came together, and the fusion of the two approaches was just as natural as it should have been. This cybernetic spaghetti western is enough to turn any space into an apocalyptic wasteland, but overwhelmingly loud and with the lights off, it’s an unforgettable experience: one of the finest mind-movies ever made.
