Daytimers is a collective of British south Asian creatives that came together during the first Covid lockdown with the aim of countering stereotypes and gatekeeping in radio and clubbing, and creating a space for artists to express themselves genuinely, without pandering to the white gaze. They take their name from the daytime Bhangra raves of the 1980s and 90s, which helped bring Asian-Britsh music to the forefront of the UK clubbing scene. With the release of DT001, which draws on the work of several talented producers and mixes jungle, garage, hip-hop, and grime with South Asian sounds, Daytimers are arguably doing the same, changing perceptions and constructing new cultural narratives through some of the hardest club music around.
