Electric Wizard

2000
Rise Above Records

So much of metal is about vibe – like, Mercyful Fate don’t sound that different from Judas Priest but they conjured a super evil aura that made them their own thing. Similarly, Electric Wizard wouldn’t really stand out from other doom or stoner acts if listening to their music didn’t feel like you were watching a midnight showing of a weird British folk horror obscurity in the basement of some dude who’s REALLY into the occult while floating in a cloud of pot smoke. Absolutely filthy riffs on resin bowls like “Funeralopolis” and “Vinum Sabbathi” will lead you straight into the wicker man.
