Cathedral’s debut, Forests of Equilibrium, may have been the more important document in the development of doom, but follow-up The Ethereal Mirror is just straight up fun. Former Napalm Death frontman Lee Dorrian lobs bombs into the garden of unearthly delights while guitarist Garry Jennings unleashes the greatest up-tempo Sabbath riffs Tony Iommi never got to. “Ride” and “Midnight Mountain” swing their battle axes mightily, proving that doom can be just as nasty when it picks up the pace.
