Double Figure

Released

Ed Handley and Andy Turner came out of The Black Dog fully formed as Plaid in 1997, and there are very few bad Plaid albums. Double Figure is maybe their bounciest and cleanest, just pure enjoyment. Maybe the achievement here is pulling off an elevated lightness, never serious but also never frivolous. Guitars and keyboards work together in a shared space and all of the hectic programming is contained with a sweet and rational language. This is so confident and fun that it feels like a compilation of maybe five different acts, and there are guests on three tracks, so maybe that’s exactly what this is.
